Join local film experts as they discuss Sydney Pollack's contribution to cinema. Learn about each of the films featured at the festival: "Out of Africa," The Way We Were," "Amazing Grace," and "Tootsie." Plus, discover more about his ties to Lafayette! The discussion is at the Long Center, in between the screenings of "Amazing Grace" and "Tootsie." Pollack was born July 1, 1934 in Lafayette, Indiana. He died in 2008.

Synopsis

In this documentary, Aretha Franklin performs with the choir at Watts' New Bethel Baptist Church in January 1972 while recording her live best-selling gospel album "Amazing Grace." In attendance are Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones as well as members of Franklin's family and the local congregation and community who worship alongside her. Directed by Sydney Pollack and finished by Alan Elliott.

Sydney Irwin Pollack (July 1, 1934 – May 26, 2008)

Born in Lafayette, Indiana.

He was an American film director, producer, and actor.
Pollack is known for directing commercially and critically acclaimed studio films.

Over his forty year career he received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award as well as nominations for three Golden Globe Awards and six BAFTA Awards.
